TNS was founded by actor & director, Marcia Kimmell in 1979 to create a safe place for a variety of people to benefit from an improvisational base to acting training. She uses Viola Spolin's brilliant ensemble, improv techniques, Theater Games, also Stanislavski's "System of Psycho-physical Actions," as well as experimental theater techniques for training. She also directs individuals and groups in the process of creating new theater pieces based on issues in our lives. We also train independent film/video makers, educators and drama therapists.
Our participants get "side-benefits" of personal growth and tools for personal transformation. Our theater studio is located in San Francisco, and Ms. Kimmell travels nationally to share this work. She was trained by Viola Spolin, originator of Theater Games at the Second City in Chicago, Philip Bennett, expert in Stanislavski's later work, in S.F. and psycho-dramatist, Dr. Richard Korn, Ph.d. in Berkeley. She teaches "Acting" and "Storytelling" in the Digital Motion Picture Department at Cogswell Polytechnical College and teaches Theater/Video at Mission High School in San Francisco.
