San Francisco Filmmaking Society (SFFS) announces landmark grants totaling $3 million for SF Bay Area narrative feature films. As part of the Film Society's new filmmaker services programs, and thanks to the generosity of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, SFFS is pleased to announce the new San Francisco Film Society/Kenneth Rainin Foundation Filmmaking Grants, which, over the next five years, will disburse a series of annual grants totaling $3 million for narrative feature films being made in the San Francisco Bay Area. The grants, which run 2009-13, will be awarded in the spring and fall of each year.

The first winner will be at the Golden Gate Awards during the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Chicken and Egg Pictures: Open Call for Submissions
Chicken & Egg Pictures is a hybrid film fund and non-profit production company dedicated to supporting women filmmakers who are as passionate about the craft of storytelling as they are about the social justice, environmental and human rights issues they’re embracing, translating and exploring on film. We match strategically timed financial support with rigorous, respectful and dynamic mentorship, creative collaboration and community-building to nurture women filmmakers whose diverse voices represent a range of lived experience and realities that have the power to change the world as we know it. Since founding in 2005, Chicken & Egg Pictures has provided approximately $1M in funding to over 50 women-made films. This open call is for non-fiction projects (unless otherwise solicited) - that are dedicated to progressive social change -- both short and feature length, "webisodes", animation, experimental and multiplatform new-media hybrids. IDA Documentary Awards - Early Deadline June 11, Final - July 7
The IDA Documentary Awards honoring outstanding non-fiction work in 2009 will be presented in Los Angeles on December 4. Submissions are now being accepted in the categories of Feature, Short, Limited Series, Continuing Series, Student Film, and four additional Special Recognition Awards. The Jesse Thompkins III Foundation for Young People in the Arts 
JT3 Art is seeking aspiring screenwriter/directors who demonstrate talent, passion, work ethic, and a deep-seated need to make art, but have room to grow and need this grant to help make that growth possible. Applicants must be residents of Brooklyn, NY. At least one $2,000 JT3 Artist Award, and one or more grants under $2,000 will be awarded.
 

Cinereach Funding 
July  is the deadline to submit an application for The Reach Film Fellowship, a program through which Cinereach provides a $5,000 grant, sponsorships, mentorship and industry exposure to four young filmmakers making socially conscious short films. The program is for recent film school grads and self-taught filmmakers at an early stage in their careers.

Ultimate Filmmaker Competition
Regular Submission Deadline: June  
Get your film produced and distributed with this dynamic, all-inclusive filmmaking competition that will launch and/or establish your life as a filmmaker. The winning entrant will have their feature film produced and distributed and will receive a minimum $200,000 cash grant along with resources for a total value of more than $500,000. And it doesn’t stop there. The film will be distributed on multiple platforms simultaneously – theatrical, cable and online - for maximum global exposure.

Woodstock Film Festival

The annual Woodstock Film Festival (Sept) is currently accepting submissions in all categories. Maverick Awards are presented for Best Feature ($5000 cash), Best Documentary, Best Short Documentary, Best Short Film, Best Student Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Animation. Cash, prizes and/or services are given out in each category. Audience Awards are presented for Best Feature and Best Documentary. Award sponsors have included The Lee Marvin Estate, the late James Lyons, Lowel-Light, Apple Computers, Final Draft, Post Factory, A&E Indie Films, Docurama, Kodak, Baseline, Markertek, and others.
