The Herbert Filmmaking Grants
As part of the Film Society's new Filmmaker Services programs, launched in August 2008, they are happy to announce that they will be making $25,000 in grants available to films by Bay Area filmmakers
The Herbert Filmmaking Grants will be awarded to deserving films in various stages, from development and production through post production and outreach. Awardees must be Filmmaker Pro members of the San Francisco Film Society to be eligible.
The Call for Entries, with complete information on guidelines and deadlines, will be published in mid-fall. These grants are made possible through the generosity of the Herbert Family. Visit: www.ssfs.org



Golden Gate Awards:
Each year the Film Society awards cash prizes to international and Bay Area filmmakers as part of its Golden Gate Awards competition, held annually during the San Francisco International Film Festival.



At SFIFF52, held in April 23–the Film Society will award prize money to films in 17 categories, including an inaugural Best Investigative Documentary prize of $25,000.The Call for Entries, which has complete information on guidelines, categories and cash prize amounts, will be published in mid-September. The Best Investigative Documentary prize is made possible through the generosity of Sharon and Larry Malcolmson. Deadline: October 31

The Diverse Voices Project III of POV
With up to $100,000 in co-production funding available to emerging filmmakers, is P.O.V.'s initiative to support stories about diverse communities. This co-production initiative is dedicated to supporting
emerging filmmakers. Filmmakers with a prior national broadcast credit are not eligible for the Diverse Voices Project. Filmmakers who submit a film for DVP funding will be notified of the status of their submission in early spring 2009. See:

The Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and the Skoll Foundation have partnered in a three-year initiative to explore how independent feature-length documentary film can advance knowledge about social entrepreneurship. The Stories of Change Fund will consider independent feature-length documentary projects in all categories of development, production and post-production. Completed films are note eligible. Film projects must be completed by 2010. Grant awards will be made on a case-by-case basis and up to $150K per film.
